Microsoft’s new photos app for Windows is hugely updated with AI features and comes with the new Copilot AI initiative. In the past, if a user needed to edit an image using AI, they had to visit the Copilot official website and upload the image to the Copilot server to be processed and edited with AI.

Then, users got used to the Magic Eraser that removes any subject or background using AI.

In later days, Microsoft introduced Microsoft Designer, a more comprehensive tool that is only for photo editing using AI through the official Microsoft Designer website.

Microsoft Designer uses the latest image diffusion model of DALL-E to process and edit images using AI. Currently, Microsoft integrated Microsoft Designer AI into its default photos app for Windows 11 and 10.

People can now access Microsoft Designer from the Photos app directly and use the background eraser and photo elements eraser tools for free.

These AI things don’t require an internet connection to work in the photos app. They work well on devices.

In tests, we found that Windows 11 devices with at least 8GB RAM and a dual-core CPU can run Microsoft Designer on-device without needing the internet to edit files using AI.

However, if the PC’s specifications are high and the PC is more powerful, you’ll experience faster editing and AI-related tasks in the photos app.

From a privacy standpoint, it’s great because your photos don’t need to go to any servers to perform AI-related tasks.
